The platform’s edge capabilities connect machines, devices and production systems with frontline applications and operational records. This allows real-time equipment data to be evaluated alongside operator actions, work orders and process steps. Tulip also provides APIs and connectors for integrating ERP, MES, quality, maintenance and other systems already operating within the manufacturing environment.

Governance functions allow organizations to manage application development, approvals, permissions and deployment across multiple sites. Individual facilities can configure workflows around local operating requirements while centralized teams maintain common data structures, security controls and application standards.

Tulip also supports regulated and quality-critical operations. Its GxP-ready capabilities include electronic records and signatures, audit trails, approval workflows and contextual data histories for batches, products and equipment. These functions support applications in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, aerospace and defense, and other environments requiring controlled procedures, traceability and documented process execution.

Tulip was started by a team of engineers out of the MIT Media Lab. Its platform is based on more than a decade of research in frontline operations and technologies including the Internet of Things, machine vision, human-computer interaction, augmented reality and machine learning.
