Emerson has introduced PACEdge 3.0, the latest version of its IIoT enablement platform for the deployment of AI, machine learning, analytics and other software applications at the industrial edge. The updated platform is designed to help manufacturers aggregate data from disparate IIoT technologies and move that information into containerized applications operating closer to plant equipment and production processes. PACEdge 3.0 builds on the platform’s ability to collect data from multiple industrial sources and make it available to applications including AI-based analytics, machine vision systems, inference tools, dashboards and data visualization. By processing applications at the edge, manufacturers can make operational data available closer to where it is generated while bringing information from siloed IIoT technologies into a more usable environment.

Emerson’s PACEdge 3.0 helps teams more intuitively secure, deploy and standardize edge applications to drive the most efficiency and productivity from their operations.
The PACEdge 3.0 platform is designed to address a growing challenge for manufacturers adopting AI and advanced analytics: useful operational data frequently resides across separate machines, controllers, sensors and IIoT technologies. PACEdge aggregates that information from multiple technologies and makes it available to applications supporting real-time analysis, visualization and operational decision-making.
“Amidst increasing competition, workforce shortages and the rise of AI, deploying software in the most performant and cost-effective way is a critical enabler of competitive advantage,” said Sean Saul, vice president of product for Emerson’s process systems and solutions business. “The PACEdge 3.0 software platform provides a suite of tools and services to make it easier for teams to deploy or build their own analytics, AI and machine learning applications, dashboards, graphics and data visualizations as close as possible to where work is performed. This version release helps customers realize operational value from edge applications faster through a simpler, more scalable deployment experience.”
The new release also introduces a group manager to simplify the administration of multiple edge devices across a facility or enterprise. Through a graphical interface, users can remotely organize and manage groups of devices and deploy updated dashboards, security updates, operating system updates and other software changes across them. This provides plant and enterprise teams with a more centralized approach to managing distributed edge applications as installations grow in scale.
In addition, PACEdge 3.0 expands integration with its PACEdge app marketplace, providing users with a single repository for applications available through the platform. Containerized workloads can be installed and operated at the edge in a secure environment, while users can browse and search for applications suited to their specific production or operational requirements. The combination of containerized workloads and centralized application access is intended to simplify installation and support lower-touch deployment of edge applications across industrial systems. Emerson is targeting PACEdge 3.0 for use across life sciences, oil and gas, packaging, food and beverage and other industrial markets.
