NORD DRIVESYSTEMS, global industry experts in drive systems and motion control, has expanded its compact control cabinet variable frequency drive family to cover motor powers up to 200 hp. The addition of four frame sizes brings the NORDAC PRO SK 500P series to 10 sizes spanning 0.33 to 200 hp. The expanded series combines scalable control functionality with multi-protocol Ethernet connectivity, integrated functional safety and wireless diagnostic capabilities.
Designed for control cabinet installation, the VFDs feature a compact book-style format that allows units to be mounted side by side without gaps. This arrangement reduces the cabinet space required for multi-axis systems while supporting applications ranging from airport baggage handling and intralogistics to bulk material handling and packaging. The drives can control three-phase asynchronous motors and NORD IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motors. High-precision control and strong overload capacity enable their use in constant-torque applications where reliable speed and torque regulation are required.
The NORDAC PRO SK 500P variable frequency drive family now covers motor powers from 0.33 to 200 hp, with scalable control, connectivity and functional safety options.
Basic SK 500P versions offer integrated PLC functionality, four parameter sets that can be switched online, a brake chopper, POSICON positioning control, an energy-saving function and a CANopen interface. Users can configure and commission the drives through a plug-in control module, NORDCON software or a mobile application. Advanced versions add inputs and outputs, SK TU5 plug-in control modules, SK CU5 extension modules and an integrated multi-protocol Ethernet interface. The interface connects the drives to Ethernet-based control systems while allowing communication protocols to be configured for individual applications. A USB interface enables programming and parameterization without applying mains power to the drive. A microSD card slot supports parameter storage and transfer between drives, while an RJ12 diagnostic interface provides an additional connection for commissioning and service.
Versions beginning with the SK 510P are available with functional safety options including Safe Torque Off and Safe Stop 1. These functions safely interrupt torque-producing energy or initiate a controlled stop before removing torque, helping protect personnel and equipment during machine operation and maintenance.
The four new frame sizes are available as SK 530P, SK 540P and SK 550P versions. Compatible modules include the SK TU5-CTR ControlBox, SK TU5-PAR ParameterBox and SK CU5-STO/MLT extension module. System accessories include mains, DC-link and motor chokes, braking resistors, control options and electromagnetic compatibility kits.
NORDCON commissioning and diagnostic software provides a common interface for parameterizing, programming and monitoring the drives. Its dashboard-based visualization supports parameter management and system diagnostics, while an oscilloscope function allows engineers to record and analyze drive signals during commissioning, optimization and troubleshooting. Additional capabilities include parameter backup and recovery; integrated help functions and NORDCON SCOPE tools for analyzing drive behavior during initial commissioning and operation.
In addition, the NORDAC ACCESS BT Bluetooth interface provides wireless access from a compatible mobile device. Maintenance and commissioning personnel can use the connection to check operating parameters, review drive history data and perform diagnostic tasks without establishing a wired connection.
