POSITAL Unveils IXARC Incremental Rotary Encoder Upgrades

Motion Control Power Transmission, Actuators, Mechanics

POSITAL has announced significant upgrades to its IXARC family of incremental magnetic encoders, increasing the maximum resolution to 32,768 pulses per revolution (PPR). This enhancement opens new possibilities for high-precision applications while maintaining compatibility with legacy systems—a key consideration for the Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) market. The upgrades also include new phasing options, such as wider index (Z) pulses, and reduced power consumption, made possible through advanced TMR magnetic sensor technology.

The upgraded encoders now support resolutions up to 32,768 pulses per revolution (PPR), enabling high-precision applications like high-speed printing systems and advanced motion control environments.

“Magnetic encoders have practical advantages over their optical counterparts. They are compact, rugged, and tolerant of damp and dirty environments. While optical encoders were the traditional go-to choice for high- resolution applications, our new IXARC magnetic encoders have significantly narrowed the performance gap, making them ideal for high-speed printers and other demanding applications.”

Programmability and Customization

IXARC encoders offer extensive programmability through software, with configurable parameters such as:

  • Resolution
  • Pulse Direction: A before B or B before A
  • Index Pulse Width
  • Output Drivers: Available in HTL and TTL

Encoders can be pre-configured at the factory or customized on-site using POSITAL’s UBIFAST programming tool, providing flexibility for both new and existing systems.

Mechanical Configurations for Diverse Environments

IXARC encoders are available in various mechanical designs to suit specific application needs, including:

  • Housing Materials: Options like 316L stainless steel for food and beverage industries
  • Environmental Protection: Rated up to IP69K for harsh conditions
  • Shock and Load Resistance: Shock loads up to 300g and shaft loads up to 180N with heavy-duty bearings
  • Mounting Standards: Compatible with European, North American, and Asian specifications

These features make IXARC encoders suitable for challenging environments such as industrial machinery, mining, and offshore operations.

Integration and Replacement

With their rugged design, programmability, and compatibility with global standards, IXARC encoders are easy to integrate into motion control systems or replace older equipment. POSITAL’s online Product Finder tool simplifies selection, helping customers identify the ideal encoder for their application.
