Teledyne Unveils 3D Laser Profiler for In-line Inspections

Teledyne DALSA, global industry experts in machine vision technology, has introduced the Z-Trak™ Express 1K5 3D laser profiler series. Designed for cost-effective, in-line measurement and inspection applications, the profiler delivers high-speed 3D inspection with real-time processing, achieving a maximum profile rate of 5,000 profiles per second across its full measurement range.

Featuring a 1,700 mm horizontal field-of-view, the system enables precise measurement and inspection of wide-body objects such as wooden planks, road surfaces, pallets, and automotive body parts via a single sensor. It also supports the integrations of multiple sensors in various configurations, enabling advanced capabilities such as measuring the thickness of moving parts, performing continuous 360° inspections, and extending the horizontal field-of-view without compromising Z-resolution. In addition, multiple sensors can be synchronized via a single data cable, with content-based triggering for added flexibility.

All Z-Trak profilers are shipped deployment-ready, delivering micrometer-level measurements without the need for in-field calibration. To accommodate objects of varying sizes, shapes, colors, finishes, and material compositions, it includes real-time, user-programmable profile enhancement functions, two-point HDR, and models with eye-safe red or blue lasers. On-board processing ensures performance without compromising the profile rate.

The system is supplied with a range of tools to streamline implementation, including Z-Trak 3D Apps Studio, a license for a suite of in-line measurement and inspection software tools; Z-Expert, a graphical configuration utility; and Sherlock™8, a rapid deployment platform for machine vision that supports communication with PLCs and other devices via protocols such as TCP/IP, MODBUS®, and ProfiNet®.
